Prominent Christmas Markets in Berlin

1. Berliner Weihnachtszeit at the Red Town Hall (near Alexanderplatz):

Located near the Berlin town hall and the Marienkirche,
Dates: 25 November to 30 December 2024
Monday to Friday from 12:00 to 22:00, and
Saturday to Sunday from 11:00 to 22:00
closed Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day noon - 10pm.

Known for its historical charm, this market has a nostalgic feel with traditional wooden stalls and a large ice rink. It often includes a vintage Ferris wheel that provides excellent views of the city. The atmosphere is more traditional and family-oriented, with a focus on history and craftsmanship.

2. Weihnachtszauber at Gendarmenmarkt (Bebelplatz)

located at Bebelplatz, 10117 Berlin
Dates: November 25 - December 31, 2024
Sunday to Thursday: 12:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Friday and Saturday: 12:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Christmas Eve: 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM
New Year's Eve: 12:00 PM - 1:00 AM

Admission: €2 for adults; free for children up to 12 years. Free admission Monday to Friday from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM (excluding December 24-26 and December 31).

This market is set in one of Berlin’s most beautiful squares, surrounded by historic architecture like the Konzerthaus, this market is known for live performances and artisanal craftsmanship. Further, it features a blend of traditional crafts, unique gifts, and festive culinary delights, including roasted almonds, chestnuts, and mulled wine.

3. Weihnachtsmarkt am Alexanderplatz:

Dates: 25 November to 26 December 2024
11am to 10pm

Centrally located in Berlin, this market features a giant Christmas pyramid and a Ferris wheel. It’s ideal for a quick festive experience. It offers wooden toys, pottery, and festive decorations. Expect a variety of traditional food and drinks such as currywurst, potato pancakes, and mulled wine.

4. Christmas Market at Breitscheidplatz (near Gedächtniskirche):

Dates: from November 24, 2024 - January 05, 2025
Sunday to Thursday from 11:00 to 21:00, and
Friday to Saturday from 11:00 to 22:00.

This market offers a unique setting next to the historic Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, featuring over 170 stalls selling traditional foods, gifts, and handmade crafts. It also includes festive activities like a carousel and a children's Ferris wheel​

5. Charlottenburg Palace Christmas Market

Dates: November 25 to 29 December 2024
Monday to Thursday from 1 to 10 pm,
Friday to Sunday from 12 to 10 pm,
25 and 26 December from 12 to 10 pm,
closed on Christmas Eve
I remember there was an admission fee. The place was packed and a bit dark. The photos we have taken are not clear.

Located in front of the illuminated Charlottenburg Palace, this market has a regal, romantic atmosphere. It offers the traditional Christmas decorations, wooden nativity sets. Try the Kaiserschmarrn (Austrian pancakes), roasted chestnuts, and mulled wine.

6. Winter World at Potsdamer Platz

Dates for Winter World: 21 November 2024 to 1 January 2025
for Christmas markets: Early November to early January, from 10 AM to 10 PM. (will give update)

This market is known for its focus on winter sports like tobogganing and ice-skating. It's a modern take on Christmas markets, located in the heart of Berlin.
Take home some souvenirs, toys, and seasonal décor you can in this market. More so, try the famous raclette (melted cheese over bread), Bratwurst and Belgian waffles.

7. Spandau Christmas Market

located at Marktstraße 10
Dates: November 25 to December 22, 2024,
usually from 11 AM to 9 PM..

One of Berlin’s largest markets, set in the charming old town of Spandau, it offers a historical atmosphere with medieval performances.. The market stalls sell handcrafted ornaments, candles, and festive gifts. More so, try the goose sandwiches, mulled beer, and stollen (German fruitcake).

8. Lucia Christmas Market (Kulturbrauerei)

Dates: November 25 to December 22, 2024
Monday to Friday from 3 to 10 pm,
Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 10 pm

Highlights: This market, set in the Kulturbrauerei brewery, has a Scandinavian theme with Nordic Christmas traditions. The market offers Scandinavian handicrafts, textiles, and wooden items. Try the Glögg (Nordic mulled wine), elk sausage, and smoked fish.

Visitors to Berlin’s Christmas markets can enjoy a wide variety of items, both traditional and modern. Common offerings include:

Handcrafted ornaments, nutcrackers, candles, knitwear, and wooden toys.
Bratwurst – Traditional German sausages.
Lebkuchen – Gingerbread cookies, often decorated with icing.
Stollen – A festive fruit bread with candied fruits and nuts.
Schmalzkuchen – Small fried donuts dusted with powdered sugar.
Käsespätzle – Egg noodles with melted cheese.
